Every year on the Swedish National Day, June 6th, the excitement of horse racing moves to the heart of Stockholm, as several races take place at the park Gärdet.

Since its inception in 2013, the "Nationaldagsgaloppen" has become a beloved annual event.

On Thursday, the event is expected to attract around 50,000 attendees, coming together to enjoy a grand celebration of horse racing and community festivities.

The day will feature a total of seven horse races, including four for thoroughbreds, one for Arabian horses, and two pony races. In addition, 2024 will see the introduction of two official monté races, adding a new dimension to the racing lineup.

Former jockey and current Svensk Galopp employee, Anna Thelander, will host this year's event from the main stage.

“I look forward to seeing all the wonderful people coming to Gärdet to join the festivities. Families, children, grandparents, and groups of friends with their picnic baskets, dogs, hats, and smiles—it’s just magical,” Anna Thelander said.

Anna Thelander also highlighted the thrilling races set against one of Stockholm’s most famous and picturesque locations.

“The nail-biting excitement and the unique camaraderie among the visitors create a magical atmosphere,” she added.

Visitors to this year’s Nationaldagsgaloppen can expect a day filled with exhilarating races, performances by talented artists, hat parades, pony races, live TV broadcasts, and fun activities for children.

Anna Thelander promised, “It’s a cherished tradition that we take great care to preserve. Everything you love about this event will be there as usual, plus some sunshine, hopefully!”

The event promises to be a wonderful kick-off to the summer season, offering free entrance to all.

“We are doing our utmost to ensure that this year’s Nationaldagsgaloppen will be a fantastic start to the summer. Hope to see you there!” Anna Thelander concluded.
